Cabo Girão skywalk, Madeira: tickets, opening hours and getting there

Cabo Girão’s glass-platform viewpoint has €5 adult admission and published daily hours of 08:00–20:00. Plan transport to the viewpoint separately from a visit to Câmara de Lobos harbour.

Is the Cabo Girão skywalk worth a stop?

Cabo Girão suits visitors who want a short high-level coastal viewpoint visit rather than a hike. The glass platform looks down towards cultivated land at the foot of the cliffs, with views towards Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. Visit Madeira gives the viewpoint altitude as 580 metres; this is not the length of a glass bridge or a walking route.

Allow about 30–60 minutes at the viewpoint as an editorial planning allowance, then add your journey and any entry queue. Choose a harbour visit instead if height exposure or standing on glass would spoil the outing. Low cloud can reduce the outlook, so a paid visit does not guarantee a clear view.

Cabo Girão tickets: use the €5 government tariff

The Madeira government’s SIMplifica ticket page currently lists adult admission at €5. Children up to and including age 12, Madeira residents, and people with reduced mobility or using wheelchairs are listed as exempt. Residents need the validated resident QR card described on the portal.

Buy through the official SIMplifica service linked here. Tourists and non-residents do not need to register or authenticate: select “Solicitar” to start. The service offers individual and group tickets. A visitor aged 13 or over falls outside the published child exemption.

Some older price information remains online: even the Visit Madeira page still has a €2 line in its descriptive details, while its prominent fee panel says €5. The issuing government service also says €5, so budget using that tariff rather than the stale €2 text.

Opening hours and what the ticket covers

SIMplifica publishes viewpoint opening every day from 08:00 to 20:00. Those are the viewpoint hours, not a promise that every bus, shop or nearby attraction runs for the same period. The weekday contact-centre hours lower on the ticket page are separate.

This is an admission service for Miradouro do Cabo Girão. Do not treat it as a forest-trail reservation or assume that it includes transport, a cable car or a guided tour. No live ticket inventory or last-admission cutoff is confirmed here; do not plan to arrive at closing time.

Getting to the skywalk from Funchal or Câmara de Lobos

For a taxi or booked transfer, name the Cabo Girão viewpoint on Estrada do Cabo Girão, not just Câmara de Lobos. Arrange the return as well as the outward ride if you are not driving. The bay is a different destination below the viewpoint; this guide does not recommend walking up from it.

Visit Madeira lists Yellow Bus sightseeing routes from historic Funchal through Câmara de Lobos to Cabo Girão. This is a named no-car option to investigate, not a guarantee that every Yellow Bus ticket serves the skywalk. Follow the operator link for the current product, stop sequence and return departure, and read whether viewpoint admission is included or payable separately. We have not verified a current local-bus departure timetable or a parking tariff.

Glass platform, mobility and nearby cliff attractions

The reduced-mobility admission exemption is a tariff rule, not a certification that your entire journey, parking space, entrance or transport is suitable for a particular mobility aid. For an access-specific trip, contact the responsible Direção Regional do Património using the details on SIMplifica before booking transport.

The fields and fajãs below the viewpoint are places seen from above; the skywalk ticket does not establish a safe walking descent to them. A cable-car excursion is a separate service with its own operating conditions. Do not use an unsigned cliff path as an alternative. Remain within the managed viewpoint and follow any local restrictions.

Combine the viewpoint with the harbour, not an assumed hike

For a straightforward half-day, spend time around Câmara de Lobos bay and have lunch, then continue by arranged transport to Cabo Girão. Reverse the order if your transport timetable makes that easier. Leave room for both the entry queue and the return journey instead of treating the two places as one walkable attraction.

If the viewpoint is clouded in or the glass platform does not appeal, keep the harbour visit and put the remaining time towards Funchal. There is no need to add a trail merely to fill the day.
