Madeira costs: price a seven-day trip with or without a car

Build a six-night trip basket, compare complete transport costs and use worked two-adult trail and pool admissions examples without fabricated hotel or daily averages.

Price your actual week, not a national daily average

For the existing seven-day plan, budget six accommodation nights and seven calendar days of meals, plus airport journeys, local transport, the two chosen outings and admissions. A no-car holiday is not just bus fares, and a car holiday is not just the rental headline rate.

The worked examples below use two adults paying the published general visitor tariff, without exemptions or operator protocols. They price a clearly defined admissions basket, then show the remaining quote lines. They are not a complete holiday quote, hotel-price average or claim that a trail or pool is open on your dates.

What the €15 example actually buys

The general seven-day itinerary keeps Funchal as one base and separates eastern, northeastern and northwestern outings. If you choose the optional PR11 walk and paid Porto Moniz complex, the two-adult admission calculation is €9 + €6 = €15. Without one of those visits, remove that line rather than treating the subtotal as a compulsory pass.

PR11 still needs the applicable reservation and usable trail access. An excursion stopping in Ribeiro Frio is not necessarily a booking to walk PR11. Pool admission also remains separate unless the booked tour explicitly includes it.

What changes in the €45 walking basket

IFCN’s 2026 non-protocol visitor tariff is €4.50 for an individual covered route other than full PR1, €9 for two or more combined routes in one day excluding PR1, and €10.50 for full PR1 with its listed associated exit routes.[27] Two adults reserving PR6 and PR6.1 on one day therefore budget €18, and a separate full-PR1 day adds €21. With the €6 pool line, the priced subtotal is €45.

This alternative replaces general sightseeing days; it is not an extra full ridge crossing squeezed into the original week. Do not pay twice for an associated exit already covered by the stated PR1 product, or treat the tariff as proof that an exit is open. The through-walk requires its own ability, weather, route-status and one-way collection plan.

Porto Moniz: €3 is admission, not the whole outing

The municipality publishes €3 per entry for visitors older than three at the serviced natural-pool complex. Discounts and free categories have their own evidence requirements.[28] For the two adults in these examples, two full-price entries cost €6.

Do not replace that line with “free swimming” merely because Cachalote is free to access: it is a different, less equipped bathing area. Neither price establishes safe conditions. Transport, lunch and any hired equipment or other purchases are additional.

Compare no-car and hire-car on the same basis

Keep accommodation, meal choices and the same intended visits constant. For the no-car version, add both airport journeys, the two chosen excursions and all other local journeys. For the car version, add the complete rental bill, fuel, parking and any transfer not covered by the rental. Then add the appropriate admissions subtotal only where not already included.

For the general example, the total is the real six-night room quote + actual food budget + chosen complete transport basket + €15 + any other selected admissions. For the walking alternative, replace €15 with €45 and reprice the walking transfers; do not simply add €30 and assume transport stays the same. A car left at a one-way start does not appear at the finish.

How to reduce the bill without breaking the route

Keep city days car-free if the rental terms allow a shorter hire, choose one worthwhile base and avoid changing hotels just to collect another part of the island. Remove a paid outing deliberately rather than removing a necessary return transfer or relying on a bus that has not been checked.

Garden and airport-service prices are not guessed here. Enter the current named ticket or transfer quote you actually intend to buy. Keeping a blank priced line is more honest than filling it with an unsupported “average” and calling the result a daily budget.

Prices, reservations and review triggers

Tariffs retrieved 24 October 2026. Recheck IFCN when the calendar year or trail product changes, and recheck pool admission and operation before the visit. Each covered trail still needs its own reservation and available slot; a combined tariff is not unrestricted entry. Earlier notices and the day’s weather can change whether the planned basket is usable.
