Porto Santo Airport (PXO): flights, buses and getting to your hotel
How to fly to Porto Santo, distinguish PXO from Madeira Airport, and choose the airport bus, taxi or hotel transfer without assuming a daily flight or bus connection.

Fly to PXO, not Madeira Airport FNC
Porto Santo Airport uses the code PXO. Madeira Airport, FNC, is on the separate island of Madeira. If your flight ends at FNC, you have not arrived on Porto Santo: you still need an inter-island flight or a journey to the Funchal ferry port followed by the crossing.
For a holiday mainly on Porto Santo, compare a flight arriving at PXO with a journey via Madeira. For a split-island trip, compare both inter-island directions before fixing the hotel nights. The airport-to-hotel transfer on Porto Santo is a separate part of either flight option.
Porto Santo Airport: airlines and destinationsFlights from Madeira and other origins
Binter has an official Madeira–Porto Santo route page, and Porto Santo Airport lists Binter among its airlines alongside easyJet Europe, Luxair, Smartwings and TAP Portugal. This is evidence of airline and route options, not proof that each carrier serves your origin on your date.
Start with the airport’s airline directory, then search the airline for your exact origin, dates and passengers. If you are already on Madeira, compare FNC–PXO with the ferry from Funchal rather than adding an unnecessary mainland connection. This guide does not promise a year-round frequency, a particular departure time or seats on sale.
Porto Santo Airport: airlines and destinationsDo not use resident fares as a visitor flight price
Binter’s route page describes a mobility-subsidy arrangement for Porto Santo residents and special resident or student conditions for bookings originating in Porto Santo. Those qualifications matter: they are not a general tourist fare from Madeira.
Price the actual passengers without selecting a resident discount unless they qualify. Compare the final return price, baggage allowance and change or cancellation conditions. A promotion or an airline directory cannot establish the total for your holiday.
Binter: Madeira–Porto Santo route and resident conditionsAirport bus: route 994 and the airport-marked departures
The airport describes an Airport–City Centre–Calheta bus itinerary, taking approximately 30 minutes over the full route and stopping at main hotels. That is not a 30-minute estimate to every hotel. SIGA’s route 994 page is titled Centro–Calheta; its timetable includes separate Aeroporto columns.
At the 25 October 2026 check, the linked chart lists airport departures at 08:05 and 19:45 in each of its school-period, school-holiday, Saturday and Sunday/holiday panels. The airport departures carry note b, meaning via the centre. In the reverse direction, only the Calheta departures marked a terminate at the airport; a regular Centro–Calheta service is not automatically an airport bus.
The chart does not show a clear validity-end date. Treat those times as the currently posted timetable, not a guarantee for a future arrival. Open the linked chart for your travel day, allow time to collect baggage and use a taxi or arranged transfer if the airport departure does not fit.
SIGA: route 994 and its airport timetableTaxi or a prearranged hotel transfer
The airport lists a taxi rank in the passenger terminal area. A taxi is the more direct choice if your flight misses the airport bus, you have substantial luggage or your accommodation is not near a suitable stop. Give the driver the exact hotel or apartment address, not just Vila Baleira.
A hotel transfer is worth comparing for a group, a late arrival or specific access needs. Establish whether it is included or charged, whether the driver follows the flight arrival and what vehicle or child seat is provided. This guide does not quote an unverified island-wide taxi fare or promise vehicles suitable for every passenger.

Leaving Porto Santo and connecting flights
For the return, work backwards from the airline’s check-in, baggage-drop and boarding deadlines. The airport’s general guidance recommends arriving 90 minutes before Schengen flights, while telling travellers to respect the airline’s own minimum check-in time. Do not replace that with an assumption that a small airport takes only a few minutes.
If you are joining an onward flight at FNC, establish whether the flights are on a protected connection or separate bookings and allow for disruption. A short inter-island flight does not remove check-in, baggage or transfer time. Avoid making a ferry or separate flight an unbuffered connection to an important departure.
